Memoir-The perfect win

The Perfect Win

I was sure from the minute myself and my team stepped on the field that it was going to be the most intense, brutal and game of a life time. My team and I were about to face off in the finals against our biggest rival we’ve ever had in football before. We considered our team a brotherhood that was waiting for this game forever. As the days went on we waited and waited to finally get our revenge in the finals against the team that had been beating us up all year. The day was finally here. As we walked out to the field, with the moist grass beneath our feet, the music blaring and the fans cheering, all I could think and say to myself was “This is it, were finally here, were going to win.” As I walked forth to centre field with my other captain, we were ready to choose the coin toss. There it was, the coin was in the air, spinning and getting ready to fall to the ground. I shouted “heads” as the coin was on its way down, and now this was the moment of truth to see who would start with the pigskin. As the referee granted us with first pick, we accepted to receive and start with the ball. There was just only 30 seconds on the clock until kick-off and we were set to return. There it is, the ball was off and the game was started. We rushed down the field, touchdown after touchdown, field goal after field goal keeping the game tied until the last two minutes. The opposing drove down the field with two minutes left, and they finally reached our goal line with 30 seconds left to tick on the clock. The ball was snapped to the opposing quarter back; he drop stepped back and released the ball through the air. The ball was tipped from finger to finger of each team member, to land in the arms and hands of the opposite teams player number 15 Steven Polich. The team went crazy after they scored the touchdown thinking they had the game locked up along with all of the fans as well, but there was still one last possession to take place. Both teams were set for kick-off, and the ball was off in the air ready to be returned for a big gain to give our team the confidence boost there looking for. The ball was caught by myself, I was running in and out of teammates and players only looking to reach the end zone and achieve greatness. I rushed the ball down the field with the help of one of my teammates Bradley Keenan blocking and we were stopped at the opposing line with 5 seconds to go and one play left. There was only one thing left to think, and all the pressure in the world for me to complete a pass of a life time to one of my receivers to win the game. The fans were out of their chairs and on their toes ready to see something amazing happen. “BREAK”, I yelled after we decided on which play we were doing in the huddle, and after it was said, an exact clap was done by each and every one of our teammates to finalize the huddle and to start the play. Each member of the team lined up in the correct position, with butter fly’s in each one of our stomachs waiting to see if our brotherhood could come together to complete and achieve the win of a lifetime. The centre had his hand set on the ball, waiting for the call to snap the shotgun pass from I the quarter back. “DOWN SET”, “DOWN SET”, “HUT”. The ball came through the air into my hands and I straightened it out so the laces could line perfectly with the structure of my fingers. I took the last drop step I was going to take for the rest of the season, ran out of the pocket, and threw the most accurate pass I could. The ball was up and doing a perfect spiral through the air and was almost ideal to be caught. As our main receiver made his cut the ball tucked itself in so perfectly into the triangle shape his fingers created to make and complete the perfect touchdown pass of our season. With now zero seconds left to play on the clock there was no hope for the other team to come back and beat us. And all we could do, was celebrate the perfect win.
